Tiwatope Savage was born on February 5, 1980, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria. When she was 11 years old, her family moved to London. She played the trombone in the secondary school symphonic band. After receiving her accounting degree from the University of Kent, Savage began working for The Royal Bank of Scotland. At the age of 16, she provided backup vocals for the English singer George Michael. She has provided vocals for artists like Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and Ms. Dynamite. Savage enrolled in Berklee College of Music, where he earned a degree in professional music in 2007.
Savage competed in the UK version of The X Factor in 2006 and made it to the final 24 but was eliminated as the 12th contestant. She struggled to handle the spotlight while taking part. She stated: “You have to always realize that people are watching. When I got the bad news that I wasn’t getting through [to the final 12] it was a really painful time. But you still have to learn how to hold that until you get home. Because you don’t want to just let everything out. People admire you and want to see that you’re strong; they don’t want to see you breaking down.”
In 2009, Savage agreed to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing that would allow her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa. She has received composition credit for her involvement in Monica’s soulful ballad “Catch Me.”
In 2010, she received a Grammy nomination for her collaboration with Fantasia on the song “Collard Greens & Cornbread.” Jaicko’s “Oh Yeah,” featuring Snoop Dogg, and Deluna’s “Push Push,” featuring Akon, were both written by Savage. She sang backup vocals on Whitney Houston’s album I Look to You (2009). Savage returned to Nigeria in 2012, inspired by the expansion of the Nigerian music business, and signed with Mavin Records.

The traditional wedding ceremony for the couple took place at the Ark in Lekki on November 23, 2013. On April 26, 2014, the Armani Hotel in Dubai hosted the couple’s white wedding. Savage and Balogun announced that they were expecting a child together on January 1, 2015. Tiwa gave birth to Jamil six months later. On April 28, 2016, Tee Billz accused Tiwa Savage of adultery and his mother-in-law with practicing witchcraft. Savage spoke at length about her husband’s protracted social media posts about their marriage in a 45-minute interview with This Day and Pulse Nigeria. She refuted her husband’s claims of infidelity and accused him of being careless with money, dependent on drugs, and abandoning her. During the interviews, Tiwa made it known that her marriage to Tee Billz was over.
A leaked sex tape of Tiwa Savage and her lover was made public to contain vaginal intercourse with Savage as a participant and an unidentified male partner on October 19, 2021. Savage said in an interview that someone was trying to extort and blackmail her with it. However, fans and observers believe the leaked tape was a PR gimmick aimed at promoting her then-newly released single “Somebody’s Son”. While most people’s reactions to the Savage sex video incident have been unfavourable, Tiwa enjoyed some decent support from celebrities who referred to her as a “queen” and threw their weight behind her.
